Founder Chairman & Managing Director
Mr. Balan is the Founder Chairman & Managing Director of CALS Renewable Energy India Private Limited, including group companies of SML Energy and SML Travels. He has a bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering and holds a master’s degree in Business Administration.
Mr. Balan serves on the Renewable Energy industry more than 20 years across Engineering power plants, Projects and Project development mainly wind and solar energy. He has sound knowledge in Product / Business development, Engineering and Project execution in system and solution business. Prior to CALS, he held leadership roles in Siemens Gamesa India, Vestas Wind Technology and NEPC.
Mr. Balan belief in the Economic and Environmental imperative of transitioning from fossil fuels to clean energy through Renewable Energy sources led him to form an Infrastructure and Resources company to facilitate large-scale wind projects solar mega projects and solar rooftop solutions right from early 2003, a passion that remains the same today. At CALS Renewable Energy India Private Limited, we aim to be a solution-offering firm, capable of executing quality and valuable projects to our customers, society, and the environment.

Mr. Arul Balan R is the Founder, Chairman, and Managing Director of CALS Renewable Energy India Private Limited and its affiliates, SML Energy and SML Travels. With a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering and a Master’s in Business Administration, he brings over 22 years of experience in the renewable energy industry, having held key leadership positions at Siemens Gamesa India, Vestas Wind Technology, and NEPC.
Born into a humble, middle-class family in a small village in Kanyakumari district, his passion for renewable energy, particularly windmills, was sparked during his final year of college. This fascination set him on a path to becoming a pioneer in the sector. In 2021, he founded CALS Renewable Energy, driven by his commitment to contributing to the global clean energy transition. The company has since emerged as a leading sustainable wind and solar energy solutions provider.
His journey has been marked by resilience and a willingness to make personal sacrifices, enabling him to confront the numerous challenges faced in the industry. His leadership and vision have transformed CALS into a renowned industry leader, known for its technical expertise and regulatory acumen. Under his guidance, CALS has successfully commissioned nearly 350 MW of renewable energy projects, significantly impacting India’s energy landscape.

We CALS, efforts to maintain a clean environment, our project site prioritizes responsible waste management practices. Various items, including cement bags, conductor bobbins, face masks, hand gloves, goggles, safety harnesses, safety shoes, wooden boxes, polythene covers, printer cartridges, used papers, vehicle batteries, and waste cloth, are meticulously sorted and processed for recycling or proper disposal. We ensure that materials like printer cartridges and vehicle batteries are returned to respective dealers for appropriate handling. By actively engaging in recycling initiatives and conscientious waste disposal, we contribute to a healthier environment and reduce our ecological footprint. We also engage in tree-planting drives to offset carbon emissions and promote biodiversity, supporting renewable energy’s goal of sustainability.
